YEARS AGO, WE lived in the beautiful city of Bath, right opposite the fabulous Royal Crescent where we sometimes glimpsed film crews creating the next exciting costume drama (long before the days of Bridgerton!). This Georgian city is always associated with the author Jane Austen and every September a special festival opens with a parade through the city – people come from all over the world to take part and dress up as if back in Regency times. It’s quite a sight! We thought we might go back this year as the celebrations for 250 years since Jane Austen’s birth promise to be quite something. We thought it would be fun to capture Jane Austen’s heroines in stitches. In a special two part tribute, we capture our favourite characters, starting on page 24.
Jane’s pale heroines probably wouldn’t favour the amount of sunshine we have elsewhere in this issue!
A cushion bursting with bright blooms is waiting to be stitched on page 34, a hothouse packed with plants is on page 42, a punnet of strawberries pincushion is on 29 and the sunniest cards send the warmest wishes on page 21.
