When Classic Rock magazine launched at the end of 1998, there were some who thought it wouldn’t last 10 issues. “Who wants to read about a bunch of old bands with guitars anyway?” scoffed these naysayers. A hell of a lot of people, it turns out. Almost 25 years later, Classic Rock is celebrating its 300th issue – an incredible landmark by anyone’s measure. The list of bands and artists who have featured in the pages of the magazine reads like a Who’s Who Of Rock’N’Roll – Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones, Queen, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith… in fact it’s easier to list who hasn’t appeared in the mag (spoiler: it’s a very short list). And it’s not just ‘old’ legends – Classic Rock has always recognised the importance of the new generation of guitar bands that have emerged in the last 25 years, as everyone from Alter Bridge and The Darkness to Rival Sons and The Struts can vouch.
